It was a different kind of event on Monday October, 9th, 2006.
Noone tied the knot and there were no garters to be thrown or bouquets to be tossed...
On this, thanksgiving day, Jonothan Nudell became a man.
For those of you who are not so educated on the Jewish religion, it is customary in the religion, that at the age of 13, a young boy will have his "Bar Mitzvah". He reads from the great book, "The Torah", which is an honour in itself, and is then sworn in as no longer a young child, but will now be regarded as a man.
(Note: Girls can also have what is called a "Bat-Mitzvah", however, as a boy, it is truly a requirement to be honored with this rite of passage).
Moving right along, after the service which takes place in the synagogue, a reception is held to honor the new man.
Other traditions include the traditional dance entitled, the Hora:
Up top, is Jonothan, the man of the hour , with his father Issie, as family and friends surround them.
The Hora can get pretty crazy at times....
The honored are lifted onto chairs to symbolize them being lifted to the skies and closer to the source himself.
Another interesting tradition in the "Bar Mitzvah" is the candlelighting ceremony. 13 candles are lit by family and friends, the exact number which represents the age of the now, new man.
Here's Jonothan, with his parents, Sandy and Issie along with the MC for the day, his sister, Ariela, on the left.
After all the traditional elements that accompany the "Bar Mitzvah" ceremony, one thing remains the same....
The Party......
The Directors were there to keep guests entertained for the day.
Other entertainment included a real live magician who kept some of the younger attendants intrigued and amazed.
If that wasn't entertainment enough, guests roared as Issie and Sandy, the parent's of the Bar Mitzvah boy(now man), took the stage to do a number of their own. As known stars of the karaoke world, Issie and sandy belted out the well-known Sonny and Cher tune: "I got you babe", accompanied by The Directors.
It was a successful day for the Nudells. Their son became a man, the party was elegant and the food was tasty. Special mention to the hors d'oeuvres and the desserts. Yu-mmy!
OH YEAH!
We thanks the Nudells for having The Directors and wish a warm Mazel Tov to Jonothan and his entire family.
We thouroughly enjoyed entertaining you and your guests.
